This Is Why Jasmine Crockett Isn’t Afraid Of Marjorie Taylor Greene
And why none of us must be afraid of the new administration
Earlier this week, when Pope Francis passed away, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted, “Today, there were major shifts in global leaderships. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.”
At around the same time, Klaus Schwab, the head of the World Economic Forum, resigned. It's still unclear who and what Marjorie Taylor Greene was referring to when she made that comment. Was it Pope Francis? Was it Klaus Schwab? Or was it both? No one quite knows. And she hasn't cared to clarify her tweet despite criticism and outrage from several quarters. Even a Catholic group has asked for her to be censored.
Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, who has often sparred with Taylor Greene, criticized her on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week. Referring to a previous comment she had made about Taylor Greene being dumb, Kimmel asked her if she still thought Marjorie Taylor Greene was the “dumbest person in Congress”. Crockett responded, “She’s dumb and a lowlife” and referred to Marjorie Taylor Greene's controversial tweet. Crockett thought it was weird and showed how dumb Taylor Greene was to tweet that upon the passing of Pope Francis.
Now, many white women are coming for Jasmine Crockett. US Attorney General Pam Bondi, who accused Crockett of inciting violence against Elon Musk and openly threatened her, is one of them. And then there's far-right extremist, Laura Loomer, who has called Jasmine Crockett a 'hoodrat' and accused her of attacking one of her reporters. And of course, there is Marjorie Taylor Greene - Crockett’s nemesis.
But the thing is, Crockett is not going to shut up about what she thinks. And no matter how many of these white women or even men come for her, Crockett is always going to be outspoken.
You probably ask yourself, well, shouldn't Crockett be afraid? I mean, all of these women are beholden to the powerful Trump administration. Isn't it too dangerous for Crockett to keep on saying what she thinks? And also, to openly state how dumb Marjorie Taylor Greene is, isn't it a dangerous thing to do?
But what Crockett is teaching us here is a valuable lesson—the lesson of freedom of expression, which is a key element of our constitution. We should never be afraid to speak up and say what we think, because the minute we start being afraid is the minute we start accepting authoritarianism and fascism.
So, despite the odds and with all these white women gunning against her, Crockett says what she thinks. When she was asked what she would say to Elon Musk, she said that she would tell him to ‘fuck off’. Many people think that, but few would ever say it publicly. She dares to tell Musk what so many of us would tell him.
It takes an incredible amount of courage to practice one’s freedom of expression unapologetically these days. So many people cave in and capitulate, so many people censor themselves just to be in the good books of this administration.
What Crockett is telling us is that we can't allow that to happen. She’ll continue, and she’ll probably be sued by many thin-skinned people within this administration, but she's never going to give up on that freedom of expression. She's still going to continue to do it.
And we all should not for a moment be afraid to speak up, not for a moment should we be afraid to say what we think, because on the other side of that, of being afraid, is oppression.
Black women have been oppressed for so long, and in recent years, we've been able to speak up. We've been able to shed those shackles of oppression and speak up, but there are still so many of us in companies and organizations where we know that if we speak up, we lose our livelihoods.
As a Black woman, I'm rooting for Jasmine Crockett. I'm happy that she’s speaking up, that she’s saying out loud what many people are afraid to say. I'm happy to see a Black woman out there speaking truth to power, because there are so many of us every single day who can't. Thank you, Jasmine Crockett.

I'm a white woman. A boring, old white woman, born in the Gumbo Flats in Chesterfield, Missouri, now in Tennessee.
And I LOVE Jasmine. And Michelle. And Kamala. AOC... and all the ones whose names I didn't mention.
I admire their strength, courage and insights.
Thank YOU all for what you do!

As a white Latin woman, I love Jasmine Crockett. I admire her ability to express herself. She expresses my thoughts much better than I ever could. To me it’s not the color of her skin that matters, it is her intelligence that I admire. I hope she goes really far in our country and government. I am rooting for her.
